If you haven’t read my previous email titled Bad news for the Chicago Crime show please read that first.
This morning I received an email from the editor apologizing for not getting episode 3 to me on schedule. Episode 3 was supposed to be done the night before the 4th of July, but he wasn’t happy with where it was and decided to ignore it to celebrate the 4th of July. He wanted to send it the next day as he was working on it at the airport and finished the video. But United Airlines offered to stow his bag because there wasn’t enough room in the cabin. United then sent his bag with his laptop and hard drive to Barcelona.
He then had to contact them and have them send the back to him in Venice, where it’s supposed to arrive later tonight.
As soon as he gets access to his bag, he says he will transfer over episode 3. He apologizes again and says this isn’t the only project that’s been delayed.
I’m pissed. I was a freelancer from 2009 to 2020, and I never went on vacation while I had client work to do. I also communicated with my clients weeks in advance about any time I was taking off. And when I actually took time off, or went on work trips outside of the country, I downloaded eSIM cards to make sure I was still able to communicate with my clients while on vacation. I also didn’t take vacations in general unless it was a good time in the work cycle for me to take one, and we are currently on episode 4 out of 11, so literally the middle of the work cycle.
I’m going to continue working with him because I prepaid him a ton of my money, but after that’s over, we’re going to have a hard conversation and I’m going to reevaluate who I’m working with.
Definitely talk to him about it but have some grace it was a holiday weekend..
